Under the Never Sky

One of my students brought me this book after I'd gone on at Some Length about how much I'd enjoyed The Hunger Games trilogy. There are definite similarities -- a strong heroine, a dysfunctional future world. . .

This is the publisher's book description: "Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky. "

While it didn't enthrall me to the extent that Hunger Games did, this was still a very good read with a unique premise about this future world.  I'll look for sequels when they come.

What I found very interesting was that this is a debut novel and it's received publication in 25 countries, as well as being optioned for film.

Sometimes dreams do come true!

Beautiful photos.

Hunger Games was a great read. Now to see it on the big screen! Maybe on Easter after everyone has gone home...

From the publisher's description, it doesn't sound like a book I would enjoy - but then, neither did Hunger Games! I am learning to be more open-minded when it comes to books! I might just check it out.

No, I wouldn't like that book, I'm sure of it! Not my 'cup of tea' at all. Obviously this is the latest popular genre, but I'm going to be giving it a miss.
Your skies are so differently wonderful Vicki. I'm running out of superlatives to describe your views....!

I finally read "Hunger Games." I was caught up immediately and read it in two days only because I made myself put it down. That said, I have no desire to see the movie and I'm not really interested in reading the remaining two books. Perhaps I will get around to it.

Another book to add to my TBR list. I will also pass it on to my librarian friend as she is trying to get more sci-fi/fantasy type books into our local library...a very good thing indeed.
