Breakfast Dishes --For the 17,846th Time

. . .  and, in the end,
has there ever been
any moment more beautiful than this --

Wrapt in the here and now of sunlight and steam,
and the silken slide of water
across the cobalt blue dish?

You and I must be one of the few who actually still wash dishes by hand. It doesn't look that interesting when I do it.

We've resisted a dishwasher for years. Somehow or other, the hand washing process is quite therapeutic. Besides, a dishwasher is just one more piece of kit that can go wrong.

We installed a dishwasher when we remodeled the avacado green kitchen. It is really a half sized one, a drawer fits under it. It has never been used. I prefer hand washing, most folks think I'm crazy, but I have never used a dish washer. My kitchen is open to the DR and LR, so I can still converse and be part of things. Now the clothes washer is another matter entirely.

Beautiful poetry of hand washing good looking "china" not at all from China. Me too, hand wash daily!

I know just how ya feel! Only my plates are white, so I really get a glare going!

I know exactly how you feel! I dare say that your poem has inspired me to switch to some lovely cobalt blue or other eye catching color! Seems to make washing dishes a pleasant experience:)

Dishwashing by hand is the only way for me, too. I think that the last time I lived in an apartment with a dishwashing machine might have been in the mid-1970's.

Vicki, your photos once again have shown beauty in unexpected places.

Over on Facebook Deana the Queena just posted something so appropriate to what I was feeling

'The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.'
- W.B. Yeats

How interesting that there are so many other non-dishwasher folks. Our kitchen simply doesn't have room for one and I never liked them anyway. We had a dishwasher when I was growing up and it always seemed that the dish I wanted was sitting in the dishwasher, waiting to be washed when there was a full load.

We have a farmhouse copper sink and it changes patterns and colors depending on what the food was that stayed on it for a bit. I call it my copper universe.

Lovely dish. Fiestaware. I have a whole set of the original. Use the cobalt platter all the time. We wash dishes by hand most of the time here too.

A great reminder to be mindful when doing the most ordinary things.
